Random Liveness
Product overview
Random Liveness verifies clients are real and physically present by guiding them through varied, randomized head movements while recording a short video.
This solution follows European Guidelines on Remote Customer Onboarding Solutions under Article 13(1) of Directive (EU) 2015/849, and strengthens protection against identity fraud while maintaining a seamless user experience.
How it works
- The client follows on-screen prompts to perform varied head movements, confirming they are a living human being who are physically present while Fourthline records the video.
- Fourthline captures the client's face from up to eight different angles using randomized prompts.
Note
Clients generally do not know that we record video because this helps us detect fraud.
Random Liveness
Verification checks
Fourthline performs the following checks, identical to those in Selfie Liveness:

| Self-capture | The client completed the liveness check themselves by turning their head in the indicated direction as instructed. The selfie video was recorded using the device camera, and not inserted via video captures, camera roll or library sources, or by any third party. |  |
| Image quality | The image quality of the selfie video is sufficient for us to process it correctly. | |
| Authenticity | The selfie video is authentic and shows a live client who is voluntarily participating. We automatically check that: • It is not a spoofed video. • It is not a video of a video. • The client moves their head sufficiently. • The client isn’t wearing a physical or digital mask. | |
Random Liveness is supported on App Drop-in, App Components, and the Web SDK.
