Location
Product group overview
Fourthline’s Location products help fight fraud by verifying a client's actual physical location and home address.
We offer the following:
Product | Description |
---|---|
Digital Proof of Address | We check if the geolocation and metadata of the client’s device are valid, authentic, and uncompromised, and then compare them to the home address provided by the client. |
Physical Proof of Address | We check that the home address provided by the client matches an uploaded official document stating their address, e.g. a utility bill, tax document. |
Geolocation | We check if the geolocation of the client’s device is valid, authentic, and not in a prohibited country. |
Digital Proof of Address
We ask the client's permission to access their geolocation and device metadata. If they don't give permission, they can't continue. If their GPS isn't working, they need to try again later.
Fourthline checks if the geolocation and metadata are valid, authentic, and uncompromised, and then performs the following checks:
Check | Description | Required |
---|---|---|
Self-capture | The client gave permission to share their geolocation themselves and the geolocation comes from the device being used, not from any other source. | |
Geolocation | The device's geolocation and IP address are valid. | |
Metadata | The device language, region, model, and the country code of the phone number are present and sufficiently complete. We compare this metadata to the IP address and geolocation to conclusively determine the client's current location. | |
Address | The client's home address is valid and complete, including the street name, number, postal code, city and country. We also check that it isn't a PO box address. | |
Residential area | The home address is in a residential area, not an industrial site. | |
Fraud hot spot | The home address isn't close to a place we know to be associated with financial crime. Human agents investigate any nearby fraud hot spots. | |
Prohibited country | The home address and the metadata aren't located in a prohibited country. | |
Supported location | The home address is in a country you support. |
Physical Proof of Address
The client provides a photo of an official document (or uploads a file) stating their address and we check that it matches the home address they provided. The address from the official document is included in the CDD Report.
This module helps prevent fraud and detect potential inconsistencies that increase risk. For example, a client could submit an official document with an address in a supported country, but their geolocation shows they are in a sanctioned country.
Clients can provide the following types of document:
Document type | Issued within |
---|---|
Government benefit statements | Last 12 months |
Housing contracts | N/A |
Insurance statements, e.g. health, home, life insurance (non-temporary) | Last 12 months |
Invoices | Last 12 months |
Tax returns | Current fiscal year |
Utility bills (including phone bills) | Last 90 days |
Fourthline extracts the following data from the document:
- Document type and any sub-type
- Issue date
- Validity in days, based on the document type
- Client's name
- Client's home address
We then perform the following checks:
Check | Description | Required |
---|---|---|
Self-capture | The client either took a photo of the official document themselves or uploaded a screenshot of it from the gallery or photo roll of the device being used. | |
Required data | The official document clearly states the client’s name, home address, the date, and the service provider, e.g. water provider. | |
Address match | The home address provided by the client matches the address on the official document. | |
Name match | The client's name on the official document matches their ID document. |
Geolocation
Fourthline checks that geolocation data from the following modules are valid, authentic, and not in a prohibited country:
Module | Data | Required |
---|---|---|
Digital Proof of Address | Device metadata and geolocation | |
Document | ID document photo(s) and video geolocation | |
Biometrics | Selfie photo and video geolocation |
Fourthline collates your required geolocation data group and then performs the following checks:
Check | Description | Required |
---|---|---|
Self-capture | The client gave permission to share each geolocation data group themselves and the geolocation comes from the device being used, not any other source. | |
Data validity | All your required geolocation data groups are present and valid. | |
Prohibited country | No geolocation data point is in a prohibited country. Fourthline human agents investigate any data point outside of Europe. |
The list of prohibited countries may change over time, e.g. depending on European sanctions.
