Geolocation
Product overview
Geolocation uses location data collected by the Identity Verification modules in your workflow to check whether the client is located in a prohibited country.
Note
For Document and Biometrics, Fourthline collects geolocation data only if the client gives permission to share their location. If the client does not give permission, the verification returns status code
3500(Geolocation not provided).Digital Proof of Address does not require location permission and can be used independently of geolocation.

Device metadata
Fourthline also collects the following device signals during Identity Verification.
| Signal | Description |
|---|---|
| IP address | The IP address of the device used during the flow. |
| Phone country code | The country code of the client's phone number. |
| Device language | The language configured on the client's device. |
| Device region | The region configured on the client's device. |
| Device model | The model of the client's device. |
When Geolocation is enabled, Fourthline compares these signals with the collected location data to identify inconsistencies. The IP address and phone country code are also checked against prohibited countries.

Geolocation is mandatory in the Netherlands. See Identity Verification solutions for country-specific solutions and module requirements.
Verification checks
Fourthline evaluates the collected geolocation data and performs the following checks:
| Check | Description |
|---|---|
| Self-capture | The client gave permission to share each geolocation data point themselves and the geolocation comes from the device being used, not any other source. |
| Data validity | All required geolocation data points are present and valid. The identity document video and selfie video geolocations must also be captured within 100 metres of each other. |
| Prohibited country | No geolocation data point, IP address, or phone country code is in a prohibited country. Fourthline human agents investigate any data point outside of Europe. |
